NIHSA Seeks Synergy with NAN to Boost Hydrological Awareness

The Director General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, led the agency's management team on a courtesy visit to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to foster stronger collaboration in hydrological information dissemination.

During the visit, Umar Ibrahim Mohammed provided an overview of NIHSA's responsibilities, emphasizing the agency's role in assessing Nigeria's surface and groundwater resources. He outlined how NIHSA is tasked with evaluating the quantity, quality, distribution, and availability of these resources over time and space to ensure their efficient and sustainable management.

Mohammed highlighted NIHSA's critical function in delivering accurate and timely hydrological information to aid decision-making across various sectors. He expressed the need for a robust partnership with NAN to enhance public awareness of water-related issues and promote sustainable water management practices.

Adding to the discussion, NIHSA's Director of Hydrogeophysics, Dr. Stephen Jabo, delved into the complexities, quality, and sources of Nigeria's groundwater. Pastor Femi Bejide, the Director of Operational Hydrology, explained strategies for managing the country's surface water to prevent flooding.

The visit underscored NIHSA's appreciation for the role of media in amplifying critical information. Mohammed expressed the desire for synergy between NIHSA and NAN to ensure that vital hydrological data reaches a broader audience.

In his response, the Managing Director of NAN, Ali Muhammad Ali, congratulated Mohammed on his appointment and commended NIHSA's efforts in providing essential hydrological insights to the public. He assured NIHSA of NAN's continued support in disseminating hydrological information, thus reaching a wider audience and enhancing public understanding of water management.
