The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON, has expressed profound concern over the ongoing activities of terrorists and bandits terrorizing Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi states, and their surrounding areas. In response to these threats, Dr. Matawalle has directed the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other military chiefs to deploy to Sokoto, the operational headquarters for these states, as part of a reinforced effort by the Federal Government to eradicate banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the North West.
This tactical deployment is a clear indication of the government's unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the region. Accompanied by the CDS and other military leaders, Dr. Matawalle will supervise military operations in the North West, ensuring the complete elimination of Bello Turji and his gang of bandits. Recently, these criminals circulated videos showing a Nigerian military armored vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The incident forced military officers to withdraw to avoid a night ambush, allowing the bandits to later record themselves celebrating at the site. Such incidents are intolerable, particularly given the strong support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended to the Nigerian Armed Forces.
"The Federal Government is deeply concerned about the persistent threat posed by banditry and terrorism, particularly in the North West," stated Dr. Matawalle. "We are ready to deploy all necessary assets to ensure that these criminal elements are flushed out and peace is restored to our communities. We must act decisively against these terrorists to enable our people to move freely and live without fear."
Matawalle emphasized that the time is up for these bandits and terrorists. With increased and consistent military operations, their bases will be dismantled. He urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to intensify their efforts to eradicate these threats. His presence in the North West is expected to boost the morale of the troops on the ground.
Moreover, Dr. Matawalle reassured the people of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi states, and the entire North West region that the security forces will leave no stone unturned in their mission to eliminate the bandits. "I will be on the ground in the North West with the CDS and other military chiefs, leading our brave men and women in uniform," he declared.
In addition, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence called on the residents of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with the security forces. He reiterated the Federal Government's firm resolve to protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians, emphasizing that the security and well-being of the people remain the government's top priority.
