Edo State’s political landscape has been marred by a series of deceitful actions from the very party that claims to stand for the people, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In a compelling press release issued by the APC New Media Campaign Council, Director Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah urged citizens to recognize the truth behind the PDP’s facade.
Last week, a Federal High Court disqualified the delegate list that voted for the PDP Governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo. The ruling indicated that the process leading to Ighodalo’s emergence was fundamentally flawed. “A structure built on a faulty foundation cannot stand,” Omo-Ikirodah remarked, emphasizing the court’s decision as a clear indication of the illegitimacy surrounding Ighodalo’s candidacy.
In response to this irrefutable judgment, the PDP exhibited a blatant disregard for the rule of law and morality. They vehemently denied the court's ruling, asserting that Asue Ighodalo was the validly elected candidate of their party. However, their facade of confidence quickly crumbled when the national PDP secretariat decided to appeal the court case at the Court of Appeal. This act of hypocrisy reveals the PDP's true nature—a party mired in self-deceit and incapable of straightforward honesty.
The situation further unraveled as Asue Ighodalo threw in the towel and the PDP Secretary appealed Justice Ekwo's judgment. Omo-Ikirodah pointed out, “This is the ultimate admission of their failure and deceit. The same party that dismissed the court’s decision is now scrambling to challenge it, exposing their inconsistency and lack of integrity.”
The APC's statement highlighted several instances of the PDP's troubling behavior. During the primary elections, numerous reports surfaced regarding vote-buying and manipulation. Local observers noted instances where delegates were allegedly coerced into supporting specific candidates, undermining the democratic process. These actions not only cast a shadow over the legitimacy of the PDP's internal processes but also raise serious concerns about their ability to govern fairly and justly.
This series of events should serve as a stark warning to the people of Edo State. “How can we place our trust in a party that cannot even manage a straightforward primary election without resorting to lies and subterfuge?” Omo-Ikirodah questioned. The PDP's actions demonstrate a troubling pattern of dishonesty and a blatant disregard for the principles of democracy and justice.
The APC stands for transparency, accountability, and the genuine progress of Edo State. Omo-Ikirodah urged the electorate to see through the PDP's veil of deceit and recognize their inability to govern with integrity. A party that lives in self-denial and cannot confront its own shortcomings is not fit to lead our great state.
