In a bid to ease growing tensions and potential unrest, Hon. Aminu Sulaiman, the Director General of Tinubu's Support Organization (TSO), has called on Nigerian youths to reconsider their planned nationwide protest. This appeal comes amidst increasing frustration among the youth over economic conditions and recent policy changes.
Sulaiman’s call for postponement is grounded in recent positive developments he believes demonstrate President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by young Nigerians. Notably, the President has approved an increase in the national minimum wage, a move anticipated to alleviate some of the economic pressures affecting workers across the country.
Moreover, President Tinubu’s administration has authorized the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to sell crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in Naira, a strategic decision aimed at stabilizing the oil market and mitigating the adverse effects of fluctuating exchange rates on the economy. This measure is expected to support economic stability and reduce costs for consumers.
In addition, the government has implemented a tax removal policy for rice importation. This policy aims to lower the cost of rice, a staple food item, thereby easing the financial burden on households and addressing rising food prices.
Sulaiman also pointed to the recently introduced student loan scheme as a significant step towards supporting the educational aspirations of Nigerian youths. By making higher education more accessible, the scheme represents a proactive approach to addressing one of the key concerns voiced by the younger generation.
In light of these developments, Sulaiman urged the youth to give President Tinubu the opportunity to fully implement these measures and address their concerns. He emphasized the importance of patience and constructive dialogue, suggesting that a coordinated approach could lead to more effective solutions to the challenges currently faced by the nation’s youth.
