The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) has officially scheduled the local government elections for October 19. This announcement was made by the commission’s chairperson, Hajara Mohammed, during a meeting held on Tuesday with political parties and other stakeholders in Kaduna.
Mrs. Mohammed highlighted that the current council members, who assumed office on November 1, 2021, will conclude their three-year term on October 31. She emphasized that KAD-SIECOM is charged with the responsibility of organizing elections for chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and councillors across the state.
In line with section 25(1) of the KAD-SIECOM Law 2024, the chairperson stated, "The general public is hereby informed that the local government area council elections will take place in Kaduna on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m." She noted that the commission had issued the election timetable on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Additionally, Mrs. Mohammed announced the release of the 2024 election guidelines alongside the timetable. She reassured all concerned parties of the commission's readiness to conduct the elections as scheduled.
