In a shocking incident that has left the community in outrage, a 9-year-old internally displaced person (IDP) from Zamfara State had his genitals brutally cut off by a daredevil resident of Abuja. The gruesome attack occurred on July 1st, while the young boy, identified as Jamilu, was trying to relieve himself near his home in Lugbe Zone 5.
According to Jamilu, he initially felt an urge to urinate and decided to go to a nearby fence. Feeling scared for no apparent reason, he moved closer to where his elder sister was chatting with a male friend. A few meters away from them, Jamilu squatted to urinate. During this moment, he was suddenly splashed with water, thrown to the ground, and felt an excruciating pain in his genital area, causing him to cry out in agony.
His sister and her friend rushed to the scene, apprehending the assailant and immediately taking Jamilu to the hospital. Investigations by Abuja Network News have revealed that Jamilu is an IDP from Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State, registered with the Refugee Commission. He resides with his parents near AMAC Hospital in Lugbe, where the incident took place.
The name of the suspect is yet to be disclosed as he is currently assisting the police with their investigation at the Force Criminal Investigation Department. Further investigations uncovered that Jamilu's full name is Jamilu Rabi'u. He is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center in Abuja.
Hon. Nasir Doka, the Deputy Vice President ( Northwest) Nigeria Youth Organization (NYO), is funding Jamilu's medical treatment and vigorously pursuing justice on his behalf. Doka has vowed that the NYO will go to any lengths to ensure justice for the young boy. The Refugee Commission's involvement and the actions of the authorities in this case remain to be seen.
The case, initially lodged at Tradmore Police Station in Lugbe, has since been transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation. Abuja Network News will continue to follow this story closely, providing updates as they become available.
Community Response and Call to Action
The community has reacted with horror and demands for swift justice. The incident has sparked a broader discussion about the safety and protection of vulnerable IDPs in the region. Various organizations, including human rights groups, are calling for stringent measures to prevent such atrocities and ensure the safety of all displaced persons.
Public opinion plays a crucial role in pushing the government to act, especially in a system where the powerful often trample on the rights of the less privileged. It is imperative that this issue remains in the public eye to ensure that justice is served. As investigations continue, the public is urged to support efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice and to advocate for stronger protections for vulnerable populations. Abuja Network News remains committed to reporting on this case and ensuring that justice is served.
