In a powerful and urgent press release, Mr. Abdallah M Abu Shawesh, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria, highlighted the ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinian people, marking 272 days of relentless violence and suffering. His message condemned the global community's inaction, warning of dire consequences for international safety and stability.
"The world that continues to watch the televised and livestreamed massacres and atrocities and still does nothing is either complicit or does not know its global consequences," stated Mr. Shawesh. He described the situation in Gaza as "hell on earth," with bombardments echoing from all directions, temperatures soaring, and trash piling up amidst the devastation.
The release criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) for its perceived bias and highlighted the United Kingdom's recent actions to obstruct justice. On June 10, the UK filed a "Friend of the Court" application against the ICC's jurisdiction to prevent the issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, reinforcing its complicity in the conflict.
The horrific toll of the Israeli aggression is staggering. As of July 2, over 37,925 Palestinians have been killed, with 87,141 injured. The Palestinian Ministry of Education reported that 8,572 students in Gaza have been martyred, and 14,089 injured. In the occupied West Bank, 100 students were martyred, 494 injured, and 349 arrested. The casualties among educators are equally harrowing, with 497 teachers and administrators martyred and 3,402 injured.
The United States' role in the conflict was also condemned, with significant military support provided to Israel. Between October and recent days, the U.S. has transferred thousands of bombs and missiles to Israel, underscoring its active participation in the war against the Palestinian people.
The press release also shed light on the brutal conditions faced by detainees in the Occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Over 9,450 individuals, including 320 women, 650 children, and 84 journalists, have been detained under harsh and inhumane conditions. The Israeli occupation forces' daily torture and assault of Palestinian prisoners were particularly highlighted, with 18 detainees already martyred in prisons and detention camps.
Mr. Shawesh reiterated the call for urgent intervention by international bodies such as the United Nations Human Rights Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Convention. He urged these organizations to pressure Israel to disclose the fate of detainees, allow visits by the Red Cross and lawyers, and put an end to the atrocities committed against Palestinian prisoners.
The press release serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing crisis in Palestine and the international community's moral and legal obligations to intervene and seek justice for the Palestinian people.
