• As she sets up her independent campaign team
By Nosa Omorodion
In a bid to take full advantage of the recent gale of defections of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State, the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mrs Mary Alile on Tuesday 25 June, constituted a governorship campaign team of women, made up of defected members of the Legacy PDP, other opposition parties, and her Special Assistants on Mobilization across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.
Addressing the gathering, the APC National Women Leader said that she considered having many groups working separately but with the same objective of delivering victory for the APC as very necessary, thus she decided to set up her own team of campaigners. Furthermore, Dr. Mary Alile said that her choice of mobilizing members of the Legacy PDP, now members of the APC, and other parties, was to create an avenue for them to be sufficiently engaged in the APC campaign project and to be recognised for their contribution in due course. She said that their engagement creates room for reaching out to their original associates and supporters as well as the general populace.
The APC National Women Leader enjoined members of her campaign team to work purposefully to sell the candidacy of Sen. Monday Okpebholo and the choice of APC to voters. She nevertheless admitted those chosen to form the team came highly recommended as very capable hands.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mary Alile emphasized that her campaign team was complementary of the general APC campaign councils and not in competition with anyone. She said that her decision was in tandem with the belief in the axiom of “the more the merrier.”
The APC National Women Leader’s independent campaign team underscores Dr. Mary Alile’s commitment to deploying her office towards forming a robust campaign structure to enhance the victory of the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in the September 21 Edo State Governorship Election.
The development is a strategic move by the APC National Women Leader to give the Legacy PDP members and other new members of the APC a sense of belonging and responsibility in their new party, and to galvanize them to employ their peculiar backgrounds for the mobilization of voters in their different localities to support the APC Governorship Candidate.
Highlight of the meeting was the setting up of several committees to direct the affairs of the governorship campaign team.
