In a poignant ceremony held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, the Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) marked a significant milestone as it handed over Lydia Simon, a rescued Chibok girl, and her three children to the Borno State Government in Maiduguri.
Major General Waidi Shaibu, the Theatre Commander, addressed the assembled press, underscoring the historical significance of the event against the backdrop of the 2014 abduction of the Chibok girls. He recounted the military's unwavering commitment to rescuing those still held captive, emphasizing the collaborative efforts with stakeholders and the leadership's strategic directives.
Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army, provided insights into the rescue operation, detailing the bravery of troops in liberating Lydia and her children from the clutches of terror in Gwoza Local Government Area. He reassured the public that Lydia and her children had received the necessary medical attention and care following their rescue.
The handover ceremony, attended by dignitaries from the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Youth Development, Component Commanders, Formation Commanders, and Staff Officers, symbolized resilience, hope, and the unyielding resolve to restore peace and security in the region.
As the nation commemorates this triumph over adversity, the Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI reaffirms its commitment to the rescue mission and its dedication to the welfare of all citizens affected by insurgency.
