In a decisive counter-terrorism operation on Friday, May 24, 2024, Nigerian Army troops successfully neutralized six terrorists and recovered various arms and logistics in Kaduna State. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of terrorist elements in Giwa and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas (LGA), the troops swiftly mobilized to intercept the threat.
The operation commenced with an ambush at Kidandan Junction in Giwa LGA. Troops, lying in wait based on the tip-off, made contact with the terrorists, leading to a fierce firefight. The intensity of the encounter forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning a pistol at the scene. This initial success marked the beginning of a series of tactical maneuvers aimed at clearing the area of terrorist elements.
Following the ambush, the troops advanced to Basurfe and Yuna villages, continuing their mission to rid the region of terrorist threats. During this phase, they discovered and recovered a motorbike left behind by the escaping terrorists, who had fled across a nearby river valley. The recovery of the motorbike provided crucial evidence of the terrorists' hurried retreat and disorganization.
Undeterred, the troops pressed on to Katoge village, known as a terrorist enclave and a frequent crossing point for these elements. Here, they encountered a terrorist scout. The scout was immediately eliminated, and a semi-automatic pump-action rifle was recovered from the scene. This encounter underscored the terrorists' continuous surveillance efforts and the troops' readiness to counter such threats effectively.
The operation reached a critical juncture in Saulawa village, Birnin Gwari LGA, where the troops encountered a significant number of terrorists on motorbikes. A ferocious exchange of fire ensued, showcasing the troops' superior firepower and tactical acumen. In this intense battle, the troops successfully neutralized five terrorists. The engagement also resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, and nine motorbikes, significantly disrupting the terrorists' mobility and operational capabilities.
The successful operations underscore the Nigerian Army's doggedness and determination in mitigating terrorist activities in the troubled areas of Kaduna State. The recovered arms and logistics, including the rifles and motorbikes, indicate the scale of the threat posed by these terrorist elements and the effectiveness of the troops' response.
