In a bold declaration, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 election. During an interview with Voice of America Hausa service, the 77-year-old political veteran affirmed his unwavering commitment to the pursuit of the nation’s highest office.

Atiku, who has made six previous bids for the presidency, stated, "Of course, I will keep contesting as long as I am alive and healthy," underscoring his determination. Citing the example of former US President Abraham Lincoln, who also faced multiple defeats before his eventual victory, Atiku expressed optimism for his own political journey.

Emphasizing the need for strategic alliances, Atiku highlighted the necessity for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to collaborate with other opposition parties to successfully challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). "Given the current state of the PDP, it is clear that a single-handed effort will not suffice to win the election. Strong support and collaboration with other parties are required," he remarked.

Moreover, Atiku reiterated his commitment to respecting the party’s zoning arrangements, indicating his continued support for equitable political practices within the PDP.

Atiku’s declaration sets the stage for a highly anticipated political contest in 2027, with his experience and persistence promising to shape the electoral landscape.
