By Mohammed Bello Doka

In a significant milestone marking the first anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, Ambassador Mahmud Abubakar has lauded the transformative achievements of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) under the dynamic leadership of its Managing Director, Dr. Emeka Agbasi.

Dr. Emeka Agbasi's appointment by President Tinubu has proven to be a pivotal decision. With a background enriched by his tenure at the United Kingdom's highway agency, Dr. Agbasi has brought an unprecedented level of expertise and innovation to FERMA. In just six months, he has overseen the restoration of 5,910.05 kilometers of federal roads and enhanced accessibility to 15,947.53 kilometers, benefiting both commuters and transporters nationwide.

Nigeria, with a burgeoning population of over 200 million, relies heavily on road transportation. This dependence has historically placed immense pressure on the road infrastructure, leading to significant wear and tear. Established in 2002, FERMA was tasked with the formidable responsibility of maintaining federal roads across the country. While the agency has had varying degrees of success over the years, the current progress under Dr. Agbasi’s leadership stands out.

Dr. Agbasi's impact extends beyond mere road maintenance. His tenure has also been marked by substantial economic contributions, with the creation of 25,051 jobs, thus aiding economic growth and stability. The innovative "Operation Connect Your Destination" initiative has markedly improved road conditions, alleviated traffic congestion, and facilitated smoother travel for commuters.

The National Assembly has recognized Dr. Agbasi's extraordinary efforts and achievements, prompting further initiatives such as "Connect to Your Farm," aimed at supporting the agricultural sector by improving road connectivity to rural areas. This initiative underscores the multifaceted approach of FERMA under Dr. Agbasi, addressing both infrastructure and economic development".

Ambassador Mahmud Abubakar, the Convener of Concerned Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (CNYGG), emphasized that the successes of President Tinubu's first year in office are inextricably linked to the remarkable contributions of his appointees. Dr. Agbasi, in particular, has embodied the administration's commitment to renewing hope and driving progress.

"Dr. Agbasi’s leadership at FERMA has not only improved our road infrastructure but has also created jobs and boosted our economy," stated Ambassador Abubakar. "The tangible improvements we see today are a testament to his dedication and expertise. We challenge any skeptics to verify the record we have outlined, as facts are sacred and cannot be distorted."

He continued, "Among all appointees of President Tinubu, Dr. Agbasi stands out as a beacon of steadfast commitment to enhancing the living standards of Nigerians through comprehensive road rehabilitation and infrastructure projects. As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of President Tinubu's administration, it is imperative to commend Dr. Agbasi's efforts and acknowledge the substantial progress made under his guidance."

Looking ahead, Ambassador Abubakar expressed optimism about the future. "With leaders like Dr. Agbasi at the helm, we are confident that the hope and aspirations of Nigerians will continue to be fulfilled. The renewed commitment to infrastructure development promises a brighter future for all."
