The Economic and Financial Crime Commssion, since its establishment, is yet to convince Nigerians its mandate is truly to fight corruption and not political witch hunting and character assassination.
This is no rocket science as its conviction and completion ratio on corruption cases, especially high profile cases, is negligible if my knowledge of mathematics won't fail me.
The new Chair of the Commission is said to be a lawyer, and I'm forced to question his credentials.
I'm wondering how a phone call to former Governor Yahaya Bello is or can be admitted or accepted as an invitation by the Commission?
Away from the fundamental human right suit filed by Yagaya Bello, I believe there is a need to amend his case to include defamation of character and libel.
I'm saying this because what the EFCC Chair did through his media briefing was nothing but an assassination of Yahaya Bello's reputation, integrity, and reputation. If those things were revealed during the course of trial, it would be fair and responsible, but revealing such at a press briefing amounts to media crucifixion and persecution which has always been the stock in trade of the Commission. I'm wondering why state the facts of the case outside the Court? To what end?
When many think there is no way for Yahaya Bello as he has no place to hide, he has one and many to hide.
