Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna, has pledged to address the dire state of the state's healthcare infrastructure, revealing that the 32 general hospitals have languished without renovations for two decades. Speaking during a gathering at the government house in Kaduna, where APC stakeholders from all 23 LGAs convened to mark the Eid-el-Fitr festivities, Sani lamented the necessity for residents to seek medical care in neighboring states due to the lack of functional healthcare facilities.
Expressing his administration's commitment to action, Governor Sani outlined plans to renovate, rebuild, and upgrade six general hospitals, targeting two hospitals in each of the state's three senatorial zones. Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, he cited reports from the deputy governor, a respected public health specialist, highlighting the alarming state of disrepair of the general hospitals.
Sani affirmed, “This project will be starting by the grace of God on Monday, that is in the next few days. We have to invest in healthcare, particularly at the secondary healthcare level. It is simply because most of these hospitals I mentioned have not been given attention in the last 20 years, and that is the reason they are in their current situation.”
The governor's declaration signals a significant step towards reviving Kaduna's healthcare system, promising improved access to essential medical services for its residents.
