In a coordinated effort, troops from Sector 2 (EBONYI) of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA, alongside personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, executed a successful raid operation on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Their target: the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), holed up in a camp nestled within the confines of Mgbalukwu, Inyimagu, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the operation saw the confrontation between the troops and the insurgents, resulting in the neutralization of one IPOB member, while the remaining perpetrators fled into the nearby forests. Among the haul seized by the forces were an AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 54 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, and three stolen Sienna buses—a significant blow to the illicit activities of the separatist groups.
Major General HT Dada, the Force Commander of Joint Task Force South Operation UDO KA, expressed appreciation for the seamless collaboration among the troops and other security agencies. He underscored the importance of continuous support from law-abiding citizens in the region, urging them to provide timely and credible information through the Emergency Line 193, with the option to speak directly to a call center representative.
The operation stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of security forces to safeguarding the peace and security of the South East region, while also dismantling threats posed by insurgent groups like IPOB and ESN.
