In a bid to address the persistent challenge of malnutrition in Kwara State, the government has pledged a substantial sum of $100,000 to a partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). This landmark commitment was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Nutrition Marching Fund. The decision underscores the state government's proactive approach to tackling malnutrition and improving the well-being of its citizens.
The Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Mallam Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi, emphasized the urgency of addressing malnutrition and highlighted the state government's dedication to this cause. He underscored Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's unwavering commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups and ensuring a brighter future for all citizens of Kwara State.
"This partnership with UNICEF is a significant step forward in our efforts to combat malnutrition," stated Mallam Lafia. "Under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, we are determined to rewrite the narrative for stunted children and create an environment where every child can thrive and contribute meaningfully to our society."
Dr. Umar Yakub Jaja, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed gratitude to UNICEF and other development partners for their unwavering support in addressing the complex issue of malnutrition. He reassured stakeholders of the government's commitment to implementing effective interventions and strategies to combat malnutrition and improve the overall health and well-being of the population.
Alhaji Isiaka Olokooba, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, highlighted ongoing efforts within the agricultural sector to enhance the nutritional value of food supplied to children. He emphasized the importance of a multi-sectoral approach in addressing malnutrition and commended UNICEF for its continued support in this endeavor.
Mrs. Christian Munduate, UNICEF Country Representative, applauded the Kwara State Government for demonstrating the political will to tackle the malnutrition crisis head-on. She emphasized the critical role of funding in accelerating progress and urged other stakeholders to join forces in this vital mission.
"This commitment of $100,000 from the Kwara State Government will significantly bolster our efforts to combat malnutrition and improve the lives of children in the state," stated Mrs. Munduate. "Together, we can create a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential."
The event, attended by key officials from both the state government and UNICEF, symbolized a united front in the fight against malnutrition in Kwara State. With this significant investment and collaborative effort, there is renewed hope for a brighter, healthier future for all citizens.
