In a recent development within the political landscape of Edo State, allegations of planned violence and chaos have surfaced, implicating Hon. Pius Alile, a prominent APC Chieftain hailing from Egor Local Government Area. The accusations stem from a press release issued by the Edo State APC Publicity Secretary, Prince Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, on behalf of the APC State Working Committee led by Prince Jarret Tenebe.
According to the press release, Alile, among others, stands accused of orchestrating acts of violence, murder, and destruction of properties in Abuja and Benin City. The release further alleges that funds were being funnelled to procure dangerous weapons for use by youths inclined towards violence.
In response, Hon. Pius Alile has vehemently refuted these claims, denouncing them as false, misleading, and malicious. He asserts his longstanding commitment to democratic principles and emphasizes that throughout his political career, which spans back to 1992, he has never been associated with any form of violence. Alile highlights his belief in the rule of law, even in the face of provocation by opponents or compromised authorities.
The timing of these accusations is particularly notable, coming in the aftermath of the contentious APC Governorship Primary held in Edo State on February 22. Alile criticizes the conduct of the primary, alleging foul play and manipulation of results to favor a particular candidate. He accuses party officials of orchestrating a daylight robbery of the people's mandate and expresses disappointment in their failure to seek genuine reconciliation with aggrieved party members.
In a strongly-worded statement, Alile warns of the potential repercussions of such intra-party hostility, especially with the Edo State Governorship Election looming on the horizon. He cautions that unless grievances are addressed and justice is served, the unity and success of the APC in the upcoming election could be jeopardized.
Moreover, Alile holds the Acting State Chairman, Prince Jarret Tenebe, and other members of the State Working Committee accountable for any fallout within the party. He stresses the imperative of rectifying the injustices and restoring peace within the APC ranks to ensure a united front in the forthcoming election.
In conclusion, Alile issues a stern ultimatum to the Edo State APC Working Committee, demanding a retraction of the defamatory allegations within 48 hours. Failure to comply, he warns, will result in legal action to compel the retraction and clear his name of any wrongdoing.
