In a swift response to recent rumors circulating in the media, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has vehemently denied any plans to increase the price of petrol. The corporation, through its Group Chief Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, has labeled The Punch newspaper's headline as "unfortunate" and clarified its stance on the matter.
Contrary to the speculations, NNPC emphasized that it has not been in any dispute with any party. Soneye stated, "NNPC Ltd emphasises it has not clashed with any party. The Punch headline is deemed unfortunate." The corporation appears to be keen on dispelling any misconceptions that may have arisen from the initial reports.
The controversy stems from The Punch seeking confirmation on an alleged subsidy reduction. NNPC promptly responded, confirming that there is indeed a significant development in the subsidy situation. Contrary to a mere reduction, NNPC clarified that the subsidy has been entirely removed.
