In a recent announcement, the Federal Government has declared its decision not to publicly disclose the identities of individuals found to be financing terrorism within the country. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), revealed this stance during an interview at the27th Inter-Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) Ministerial Committee Meeting in Abuja.
During the interview, Fagbemi emphasized that the government would refrain from naming and shaming these financiers, as doing so might compromise ongoing investigations or hinder the apprehension of other individuals involved in such activities.
Prior to this statement, Fagbemi had commended the efforts of GIABA in combatting money laundering and terrorist financing in West Africa. He stressed the importance of member states providing necessary support to enable the group to carry out its work more effectively and efficiently.
The decision not to publicly reveal the identities of terrorism financiers comes amidst ongoing efforts to combat the funding of terrorist activities within the country.
