In a move aimed at strengthening the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), President Bola Tinubu has appointed Hon. Zacch Adedeji as the new Acting Executive Chairman. This announcement comes after the President directed the former chairman, Mr. Muhammad Nami, to proceed on a three-month pre-retirement leave, leading to his eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023.

Hon. Zacch Adedeji, a distinguished first-class graduate in accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University, has been selected to take over the reins of the FIRS in an acting capacity for 90 days. Following this period, he is expected to be confirmed as the substantive Executive Chairman for a term of four years, subject to his outstanding performance.

Prior to his appointment, Hon. Zacch Adedeji served as the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, demonstrating his expertise and commitment to driving revenue generation in the country. His previous roles include serving as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).

With President Tinubu's approval and the immediate implementation of these directives, Hon. Zacch Adedeji assumes his new responsibilities as the Acting Executive Chairman of the FIRS. It is anticipated that under his leadership, the institution will witness significant improvements in revenue collection and tax administration.

This appointment reflects President Tinubu's dedication to ensuring efficient governance and optimizing revenue generation in Nigeria. Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, highlighted the importance of this decision, affirming the positive impact it will have on the nation's economy.

The President's commitment to resourceful leadership is further demonstrated through the appointment of Hon. Zacch Adedeji, a highly qualified and experienced professional in the field of finance. This move is anticipated to bolster the FIRS's efforts in driving economic growth, facilitating development, and providing essential public services to the Nigerian people.

As the new Acting Executive Chairman takes charge, the nation eagerly awaits the positive changes that lie ahead under his capable leadership.
