In an exclusive interview with Abuja Network News, a prominent stakeholder from the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns about the appointment of opposition figures to key government positions. While acknowledging the need to reward those who have assisted the party in times of need, the stakeholder emphasized the importance of exercising caution when granting access to sensitive government secrets.
Drawing on a well-known proverb, the stakeholder warned against trusting individuals who have shown a willingness to betray their own party. He stated that such individuals should not be entrusted with sensitive government positions, as there is always the possibility that they may sell out to the highest bidder. The stakeholder's concern was particularly focused on the recent appointment of Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, who remains an active member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and openly declares his allegiance to the party.
According to the stakeholder, Wike's ultimate ambition is to become President, and it is rumored that he is secretly lobbying for his PDP colleagues, known as the G5 team, to be appointed to the Cabinet. This raises concerns about the potential compromise of classified information and the danger of political espionage. Wike himself has previously claimed that many PDP governors have made nominations for various positions within the government, and none of these governors have denied the allegations.
The stakeholder argued that appointing opposition figures to prominent government positions could have negative consequences for President Tinubu. It may lead to feelings of being used and discarded among his loyalists, while providing his opponents with an opportunity to criticize him. This cautionary advice is in line with the eleventh law of power as outlined in Robert Greene's classic book, "The 48 Laws of Power."
