IGP Receives State-of-the-Art Mobile Barracks Donated by UNDP, GS-Foundation, PORTO

In an effort to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), a state-of-the-art mobile barracks has been handed over to the force. This initiative was made possible through a collaboration between the Global Security-Sector-Reform Foundation (GS-Foundation) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in conjunction with the Police Reform and Transformation Office (PORTO).

The handover ceremony took place at the Police College Ikeja on Friday, September 15th, 2023. The mobile barracks, designed to accommodate up to 2,000 personnel, features modular components including military-grade tents, fully equipped field kitchens, medical clinics, and modern toilet and washroom facilities. This facility will greatly enhance the welfare and deployment capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force.

Funded by the Federal Foreign Office of the Government of Germany, as part of the Supporting Police Reform Processes in Nigeria Project, the mobile barracks can be rapidly deployed to different locations across the country. This mobility will enable the police force to swiftly respond to security challenges in various regions.

Tunji Lardner, the Chief Executive Officer of PORTO, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, stating that it aligns with their comprehensive reform strategy. He commended the exceptional leadership of Ag. IGP Kayode Egbetokun and emphasized the importance of the collaborative efforts of the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO), GS-Foundation, and UNDP in supporting this national endeavor.

In response, Ag. IGP Kayode Egbetokun expressed gratitude for the significant contribution of the German Government to the Nigeria Police Force. He also acknowledged the support provided by UNDP, GS-Foundation, PORTO, and the Federal Foreign Office of the Government of Germany. The Inspector General of Police emphasized that this initiative showcases the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to modernizing law enforcement and ensuring the safety and security of communities across the nation.

This remarkable achievement marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force. With the state-of-the-art mobile barracks, the force stands ready to swiftly respond to security challenges and provide better services to the citizens of Nigeria.
