Kebbi State Government Allots N10 Billion for State-of-the-Art Secretariat's Completion

By Mohammed Bello Doka.

In a significant development, the Kebbi State government has taken a momentous step towards completing the construction of the state's ultramodern secretariat. The government has entered into a contract worth N10 billion with two companies, marking a major milestone for the project.

The agreement was officially sealed by the state governor, Nasir Idris, during an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC) held at the splendid Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

Governor Idris stressed that this initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the civil service and create a conducive work environment for employees. His commitment to realizing these goals drove him to award the contract, which he believes will significantly improve the operations of the state government.

The governor emphasized the importance of adhering to the specified timeline of 18 months for the completion of the project. He expressed his expectation that both companies awarded the contract will deliver the state-of-the-art secretariat within the given timeframe.

Safiyanu Garba-Bena, the Kebbi State Head of Service, provided valuable historical context, revealing that the project was initially awarded to Rockwell Nigeria Limited for N3.8 billion in 2021, during the tenure of Saidu Usman Dakingari. However, due to fluctuations in commodity prices, the cost was later revised to N7.7 billion in November 2014. Unfortunately, despite reaching a 50% completion stage in December 2015, the project was abandoned.

Demonstrating the current administration's commitment to elevating the welfare of workers, the project has now been re-awarded to two firms: MTECH Universal Concept Limited and ZBCC Limited. Divided into "Lot A and Lot B," the project's combined cost exceeds N10 billion. Both lots are expected to be completed within 18 months.

Engr. Manir Jega, the Project Manager of MTECH Universal Concept Limited, expressed deep appreciation to the governor for recognizing the capabilities of local contractors and entrusting them with the successful conclusion of this prestigious project.
