In a recent publication by the Sunday Punch, it was reported that the Federal Government had established a panel to reconstitute boards of parastatals. However, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has come forward to refute these claims.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, clarified that there is no truth to the story as published in the Sunday Punch. He emphasized that the government has not formed any ad-hoc committee to review resumes for board appointments, contrary to what was stated in the publication.
Further, Sen. Akume clarified that the recent visit of former Governors Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State to his office had nothing to do with the alleged ad-hoc committee. Their visit was solely related to their recent appointments as ministers.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation also pointed out an inaccurate quote attributed to the spokesperson of the OSGF regarding the exemption of 14 agencies. The spokesperson had actually mentioned that only two agencies, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC), had received the President's approval for exemption at that time.
In light of this situation, the SGF advises media personnel to exercise caution and verify information directly from authorized sources in his office. Relying on social media reports, which can often be inaccurate, should be avoided to prevent misinformation.
