In the midst of a political tussle within the All Progressives Congress (APC), there are growing concerns about the Senate's selective clearances. It is disconcerting that a known Endsars member has been given the green light while Mallam Nasir Elrufai, a loyal party member, was denied clearance. This raises questions about the kind of politics being played in our country.
It is worth noting that 40-50% of the current senators owe their positions to the determination and resilience of Mallam Nasir Elrufai. As one of the leading figures in the APC, Elrufai has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the party's cause. He boldly spoke out against the infamous New Naira re-design by the Federal Government and Emefiele CBN, openly criticizing the Villa's cabal for working against Tinubu. In addition, he stood against the Northern Elders Forum, all in the pursuit of victory for the APC in the presidential election.
Elrufai, along with Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and other like-minded individuals, pursued a legal case against the Federal Government in the Supreme Court, successfully challenging the legality of the Naira redesign. He argued that the redesign caused immense hardships for Nigerians and was orchestrated to ensure the APC's defeat. It is worth pondering why security agencies remained silent when Elrufai fearlessly fought against these formidable forces for the sake of the party's victory.
Considering Elrufai's unwavering dedication and contribution to the APC's success, it is crucial for the majority-led Senate to urgently confirm him as a Minister of the Federal Republic. It is important that we appreciate and value the efforts of determined individuals like Elrufai, who can help bring about a renewed sense of hope in our government. It is necessary to emphasize that Elrufai has not been involved in any wrongdoing and has not been convicted by any court of law.
One cannot help but wonder who is behind the concerted effort to undermine Mallam Nasir Elrufai. However, the answer is not difficult to find. As mentioned earlier, Elrufai has stepped on the toes of various powerful entities, including the so-called Northern Elders Forum, the Villa's cabal, religious fundamentalists in the North, the PHCN cabal, and many others.
Yet, just as these forces failed during the 2023 general elections, they will fail again. The fate of Elrufai's confirmation ultimately lies with President Tinubu, and it is hoped that he will take the necessary steps to secure Elrufai's position in his cabinet. Nigerians are closely watching, and we have become wiser.
