The tradition in the Senate is that the Senate President should be, at the least, on his second term. Furthermore, the position in APC is zoned to SE or SS. So today the only two Senators qualified are

Arguments are now flowing for and against both candidates. The most vexing is the one by Aisha Alubankudi she said: "𝙄'𝙢 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙙. 𝙏𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙩𝙝𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚, 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙨 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙊𝙧𝙟𝙞 𝙐𝙯𝙤𝙧 𝙆𝙖𝙡𝙪 𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩."
To me, this and many others are the reasons the Igbo feel justified in the way they are causing so much tribal disaffection all over as if they are the only aggrieved tribe in Nigeria that must be constantly pacified. If anything it is the Igbo that has trod on the toes of virtually all tribes in Nigeria - Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, Edo, Deltans etc. Yet they cry the most about being marginalized, hated and victimized! And some devilish people enable them to further project thosw lies. What has the Yorùbás done to the Igbos that they must now go on their knees to placate them?
Out of 300 tribes we have in Nigeria and 14 Senate Presidents 8 of them have been Igbos. Was that position created solely for them? Abi oye idile won ni???
Rather, it's the Igbos that owe the Yorùbás an apology for the evils they have done to them again and again.
In 1993 MKO, a Yoruba man ran for president. It looked like an easy cruise to victory for him against a very weak Ibrahim Toffa, till the Igbo hate factor came to play by Arthur Nzeribe, an Igbo ethnic bigot along with junior partners like Peter Obi, who formed the Association for Better Nigeria ABN, and approached the Court in the dead of Night to stop further announcement of results, thereby paving the way for the annulment of a Yoruba President that later died in custody after winning the freest and fairest election in Nigerian history till date. That poll result showed that MKO won in every region except in Igbo land.
Again in 2013 Tinubu with his ACN rightly calculated that the only way to remove the PDP from power was for Yoruba ACN to merge with the Igbo APGA, Hausa ANPP and Fulani CPC. The Northern groups agreed but this same Peter Obi refused the Igbo APGA party to join. That didn't stop ACN though, they succeeded in removing PDP the ruling party with a landslide unprecedented victory without the igbos.
In 2015 the five SE States gave APC 198,000 This was a mere 1.6% of the APC winning vote. This result was guaranteed by a campaign of calumny against the Yoruba by this same Peter Obi who made an issue of what he alleged in lies that Lagos did by the alleged return to their respective states of Igbo destitutes found under bridges in Lagos. Though igbos by the stretch of any imagination are never destitutes but traders in Lagos and wherever they find themselves. Yet Peter Obi lied to his usually gullible People that Yoruba deported Igbos enmass from Lagos which was a calculated lie meant to demonize Yorùbás in the eyes of Ndigbo.
In 2020, under the guise of stopping Police brutality, Igbo-led EndSARS Hooligans descended on Lagos, attacked and burnt Brt buses, and went after Tinubu and his business interests in Lagos and even in London. Oriental hotel had to put out a notice on the hotel that Oriental Hotel did not belong to Tinubu.
They went after a first class paramount Oba of Lagos, that he had to flee in fear of his life and ransacked his palace, stole money and his crown and desecrated the ancient palace in Yorùbá land.
They destroyed the properties of Yoruba people in Lagos especially Tinubu's but did not touch Igbo properties.
The same Igbos claiming that Lagos a Yorùbá state is a No-Mans-Land, a euphemism that it belongs to them the Igbos because of their lies that they developed it and they now want to colonize it and impose their Igbo candidate in Yorùbá land. When they were rebuffed by Yorùbas they started playing the victim as usual and shouting hate! This same igbos that have grossly failed to develop their own region yet are laying claim to the most developed and economically developed state in the whole federation because they were allowed to do business and thrive in the state.
2023, the whole of SE states in which APC controls 2 of 5 states gave Tinubu just 127,000 votes or 1.5% of their votes.
In Kalu’s Abia State, the man vying for senate president, in his Senatorial district Kalu scored 31,000 whereas Tinubu got a mere 8900 votes in the entire state. So Kanu could not even convince his supporters to vote for Tinubu but he wants to be rewarded with Senate president.
On the other hand, In Akpabio's Akwa Ibom, Tinubu scored 160,000 votes. So Akpabio whose people contributed 160,000 to make Tinubu president should lose that position to Kalu whose people contributed 9,000. for national reconciliation to placate the Igbos abi?
Tinubu ignored the hate filled Igbos and aligned with the core North and he got the presidency by playing a peaceful, progressive, united, and honest polithics and he won! The igbos lost because they played bigoted, ethnic, divisive and hate driven polithics as they have been playing since independence and should not be rewarded with Senate presidency to placate them.
Right now the Igbos are once again trying to stop a Yorùbá man from becoming the duly elected president with lies, hate filled rhetorics and by causing division even among Yorùbás.
Peter Obi is claiming he wants to recover a stolen mandate, this is a candidate that failed to win in the North and came a distant third yet he wants the courts to annul the election as was done to MKO and hand over the presidency to him.
Another Igbo group even had the effontery to go as far as to petition Nass to extend Buhari's tenure by 3 months and form an interim government in their bid to stop a duly elected Yorùbá man that has emerged as president. Their hate filled venom against Yorùbás should not be rewarded. Rather President elect Tinubu should award the Senate president to the SS that rightfully deserves it and for re-election he should look again to the North and keep the alignment strong with them!
If Igbos need to be placated give them pacifier or feeding bottle, Senate president is not only for their region. Ki se oye idile! Tomo yin ban nke egbe feeding bottle fun! Placate ko! Pacifier ni!
