APC adherents are truly progressives with conscience and consciousness for justice, equity and fairness. They always stand firm in sincerity even in adversity. You cannot be a true progress if you cannot be true to your conscience and say the truth always, regardless of your emotions, interests and biases.
While not attempting to take away the glory of the victory of the actual winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bayelsa State, many just wanted Lyon to have the right reward for the unfortunate misfortune he suffered in the last governorship election debacle in that State. We wished we could just automatically hand over the ticket to him without any contest, but the rule of democratic transition does not impose by fiat unless the contest is unopposed.
Interestingly, we don't even need to know the candidates in person before we arrive at a reasonable sense of judgement, fairness and equity.
Everyone was and is still sad about how the baggage of that unfortunate deputy governorship candidate affected the innocence and fortune of the governorship candidate in the last governorship election in Bayelsa State In the instant contest, many just wanted "compensation" for Lyon without stress. This is one of the unique attributes of APC adherents, we support a cause with conscience even if the outcome is not in our favour. We are never selfish about anything. We are better by far than those other desperate supporters of other political parties who would attempt to bring down a house when their candidate loses an electron or most likely going to lose an election.
I am aware, being one of the conscionable ones, that in determining who flies our ticket, we think beyond the personal interest of the individual candidate but the electoral value of such candidate to the party. We try not to field in a candidate who has a *baggage" that could be used as a weapon of blackmail to campaign against him. We try not to allow anything that will make our party legally or otherwise vulnerable to defeat. We often try our best in that regard. Except in certain circumstances beyond our control, we often make sure we increase the chances of our party in winning an election instead of the personal interest of any candidate who may not even be able to push the lever to victory.
We try not to allow any loophole in our party's chances in any election. Because antecedents and track records are vital campaign reference points, we try as much as possible to ensure that such candidate we are pushing in is not going to struggle to stutter when asked about how he/she fared in his/her last sojourn in an official position. The concern is always about the party fortunes.
Now that Sylva has emerged as the winner of the primary election and would be contesting the governorship election, it will not be out of place to suggest that Lyon be considered as the Deputy Governorship candidate with Sylva. My thinking is that Lyon enjoys the organic love of his people, majority of Bayelsans and can add value to the chances of the APC winning in the forthcoming governorship election as he did when he was the candidate some three years back. Lyon broke the jinx to become the first person to deliver the state for APC. We cannot deny the fact that he enjoys the love of his people more.
However, if there is any such arrangement that may be distorted if they are both on the same ticket, especially, if they are from the same senatorial district, may be a national assignment for Lyon will still help in winning the election for the APC. The most important aim here is for APC to win the governorship election in the State so that Bayelsans can enjoy the full benefits of renewed hope agenda, the good governance project Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be leading at Federal level.
May APC succeed.
