2023 General Elections, like many previous elections held in the Nigerian Democratic history, has come and go. The burning anxiety that bedecked the minds of many Nigerians at the moment, is the issue/debate of zoning the principal officers of the National Assembly by the All Progressives Congress - APC, the party that produced the highest number of Senators and Members of the House of Representatives (MHRs) during the recently concluded polls.
In the House of Representatives, there are many contestants jostling for the plum job, top among them is the current/substantive Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, who in 2019 sought for the support of his colleagues to be elected as the speaker of the 9th Assembly, but later rescinded his ambition in an attempt to respect the decision of the party that zoned the position of the speaker to the South West sub-region and subsequently endorsed the candidature of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the party's anointed candidate, Hon. Wase was prevailed upon to pursued a joint ticket with Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila by the APC power brokers and executives, a development he welcomed without any reservation being a loyal party man and a parliamentarian of inestimable moral rectitude, experience and wisdom, he was nominated and elected unopposed to deputized the speaker of the house in June 2019.
As the pendulum for the 10th Assembly leadership swing continually, APC need to be reminded that Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase stand a better chance of galvanizing the support of both the returning and the newly elected members of the House of Representatives, he is a unifier whose scintillating disposition has earned him the support of many members of the house across party lines, religion and regions, he is a true democratic that never allow his personal interest to override the overall interest of the nation.
