That Tinubu won the Presidential Election is no longer news. That two of his opponents have gone to court to challenge his victory is not a news either. What is actually news is the fact that the real progressives in APC are not being proactive. And this lukewarm attitude is alien to progressive politics. I will expatiate this presently.
The real progressives in the party know that the party has become the most fragmented party in the history of party politics in the whole of African continent. It is filled with so many strange bed fellows. Many of the members do not have anything to do with progressive politics. They are in the party either to decimate it or to use it as a platform for their selfish ambitions. When you have a situation like this you have so many enemies within. And an enemy within is worth a thousand from without. What are the features of a progressive party? Some of the features are:
1. There must be clear-cut ideology and principle.
2. The party must be people centred.
3. It must focus on egalitarianism.
4. There must be fairness and justice.
5. There must be party discipline and loyalty.
6. Every member should be equal whilst the party is supreme.
Going through the features above, one will observe that APC is miles away from them. There is no clear-cut ideology. The only loyalty in the in the party can only be found among the lower wrung of the party, i.e. the followers. This was noticed during the Presidential election where lower party members used their personal money for feeding and other logistics. This they did whilst the opponents were distributing dollar to their members across the country. This is verifiable fact. Some of us had to support many people financially. As far as I am concerned, these foot soldiers are the actual owners of the party. Whilst these committed and loyal members sweating to protect the interest of the party, many of the big wigs in the party were busy with anti-party activities across Nigeria. And these are the same people who have started fighting for positions without inauguration. Some of them are spewing gibberish about the party that has given them leverage for the past eight years! What type of a progressive politician does that? Some of those characters have been highly overrated.
Tinubu should understand that his winning the election is not enough. There is fire on the mountain. He should not laugh at those who have gone to court to challenge his victory. There are so many enemies from within. There are people who had worked closely with him before who have now made themselves his sworn enemies and they are ready to bring him down at the slightest opportunity. Some of those people have hands in the Appeal Court judgement just delivered today and they have been having secret meetings with the opposition concerning the presidential tribunal case.
If Tinubu survives the conspiracies and he is sworn in as the President, he must embark on a redefinition of what a progressive party should be. Indiscipline that has become the order of the day must be checked. For eight solid years, enemies within the party have held the party in the jugular thereby dwarfing the achievements of the party. Instead of celebrations people are filled with countless lamentations. He should not belong to nobody and still belong to everybody. There is no such axiom in progressive politics parlance. Some of our leaders are arrogant, inaccessible, rigid and unapproachable. No sound progressive politician possesses these negative attributes. We (D1 Ayekooto, Sunday Wale Adeniran SWA, Fatai Alapomeji, Alabi Opeyemi, Olawumi Monsurat, Elelu Ayoola, Mercy William, Queen Dr Zara Onyinye, Egondu Okorie, Jagaban Warri, Aisha Alubankudi, Funke Cole, Ayandele Rasheed Ayantayo, Engr Akinlawon Akintunde, Uncle Frank Taylor, Uncle Ayo Siyabola Snr, Festus Olanrewaju Ojo, Alhaji Isiaka Olaniyi Olagoke, Oni Gbolabo, Oladipo Badru, Dafila, Sayid Ismael, Hadjia Mama Iwo Moyosore Oyetunji, Dr Olukunle Durodola and many more) spent our money to prosecute the election. Also, not to forget the Northern APC Governors !!!! I will never forget Aketi and Senator SOJ Akanbi. Never.
It is not yet uhuru. The doctors in the party should be ready to treat those who have sustained countless injuries due to their loyalty to the party. An organisation in which laziness and rebellion are not punished and hardwork and loyalty are not rewarded will go into extinction. Our President has said that he could not wait to go back to his farm. The implication of this is that you must have an information about animal feeds to be able to see him after May 29th. Those who are the real progressives should rise up now and take back their party. Lolzzzzz!!!
