Confusion As Banks Declare Indefinite Strike Amidst Naira Scarcity.

The Association of senior Staffs of Banks,Insurance and Financial institutions ASSIBIFI has declared an indefinite strike action until the banking environment is safe for their staffs to operate.

This is contained in a statement dated February 17,2023 and signed by the President  of the union Mr. Olusoji Oluwole and made available to newsmen.

This is in response to series attacks in different states on bankers and banking facilities from angry customers who were affected by the inability to access their deposits in various banks.

" ...  We cannot leave the lives and properties of our members to the obvious danger." The statement says.

"Consequently, all members should Today stay immediately away from work in any state where bank branches are affected. This is to continue everyday until normalcy is restored". The statement added.

No doubt this action will further complicate the already tensed situation in the country resulting from cash scarcity caused by the CBN's currency redesign  and swap policy which is leading desperate citizens to desperate actions.

Various media outlets have reported how the scarcity of Naira notes have grounded commercial activities across the length and breadth of the federation leading to excruciating pains to an already impoverished society.

The Presidential directive to allow the Recirculation and use of the old N200 as legal tender is yet to have any meaning impact as the scarcity persists in every ramification with drastic consequences to business and citizenry.
